project overview.

HD-DD-3065 springless rubber doors at a loading area

A national LTL and logistics carrier needed fuel-bay and high-cycle terminal doors that could take daily vehicle traffic without constant repair calls. Wilcox replaced the worn doors with high-performance direct-drive rubber door systems, then stayed on as the service partner for the entire network, completing thousands of service calls across 20+ states.

The Challenge: Fuel Bays and Terminals Punish Standard Doors

Logistics terminals move trucks, trailers, forklifts and freight all day. Fuel bays and maintenance areas see repeated vehicle and equipment contact, and a slow or fragile door quickly becomes a workflow problem. The carrier needed doors that would:

  • Handle high-cycle traffic without queuing vehicles at active openings
  • Recover from impact instead of shutting down a bay after an incidental strike
  • Run on monitored safety devices and controls suited to live industrial traffic
  • Lower lifecycle cost: fewer emergency calls and clearer maintenance planning

The Solution: A Standardized Rubber Door Package

Rather than treating each site as a one-off, Wilcox specified a single door standard and rolled it out opening by opening.

  • Door systems: high-performance direct-drive rubber doors, including black SBR rubber curtain configurations
  • Operating package: springless direct-drive operators with soft-start/stop controls, chain hoist, and factory wiring packages where specified
  • Safety and activation: integrated light curtains, guide guards, motion detectors and push-button controls, with owner training where included
  • Site coordination: installation labour, mechanical assembly, alignment and adjustment, plus coordination with electrical, steel, freight and lift responsibilities

One accountable partner handled the door package, installation, safety devices and ongoing service support.

The Results by the Numbers

20+states in our nationwide service footprint
1,000sof service calls completed every year
12,000+facilities serviced across North America
24/7emergency response coverage

Beyond the Install: Recurring Service Across the Network

The relationship did not end at commissioning. Across the carrier’s network, Wilcox handled planned maintenance, repairs and service calls, with the service mix breaking down roughly as:

  • 44% planned-maintenance repairs
  • 30% service calls
  • 22% repairs
  • 4% manufacturer-specific planned maintenance

Service activity concentrated at the busiest terminals, which is exactly where a standardized door and a single service partner pay off.

A Repeatable Delivery Model

  1. Assess: confirm openings, traffic, headroom, electrical, steel, activation and safety requirements
  2. Standardize: select the door standard, operator package, controls and safety devices
  3. Execute: coordinate supply, trade partners, site access, lifts, freight, mechanical install, alignment and training
  4. Maintain: track assets, PM needs, repairs and recommended replacements by site

Where This Model Applies

  • Last-mile and sort centers: high traffic around doors, conveyors, dock positions and yard flow
  • Fleet and fuel areas: vehicle-heavy openings where impact recovery and speed matter
  • Maintenance shops: wide doors, safety controls and fast reset expectations
  • Multi-site portfolios: consistent standards, reporting and scalable regional execution

Start With an Asset Survey and Pilot

The most reliable path is a pilot: survey the openings, document condition and service history, define the rubber-door standard, then scale across similar high-cycle openings with evidence.
